Sport 2000 Austria reports a sales increase of about 11 percent for its affiliated retailers between May and August, compared with the previous year. The growth is mainly attributed to the addition of new members and the ongoing demand by Austrians as well as foreign tourists for high-quality bike, outdoor and running products after the reopening of the stores and the borders. Bike rentals developed strongly, with 69 percent of the bookings coming from Germany and 14 percent from other countries. However, as more than half of the 398 affiliated stores in Austria are located in the western part of the country, many of them would not survive another decline in winter tourism, warned Holger Schwarting, CEO of the retail cooperative.
