SportChek, the Canadian Tire-owned retail chain, which ended 2023 with 371 stores, suffered a 6.4 percent decline in comparable store sales in the final period, because of lower sales of outerwear, skis and snowboards. Its total sales declined by 13.5 percent in Q4 to C$552.2 million (€380.1m) from C$637.9 million.
For the full year, the retailer reported a 3.2 percent drop in comparable store sales against 1.8 percent improvement in FY22, as total sales fell by 7.0 percent to C$1,952.3 million (€1.95bn) from C$2,099.2 million. Sales per square foot slipped by 4.2 percent year-over-year to C$317 (€218.18) from C$331.
At mid-February, consolidated retail sales at SportChek were said to be down slightly, as unseasonal weather continued to impact outerwear and winter category product sellthroughs.
