Sprinter generated €399.9 million in sales over its financial year 2021, according to Diffusion Sport. The period ran through Jan. 31 of last year, and therefore includes the worst of the lockdowns. Although e-commerce sufficed under these conditions to produce a revenue increase of 0.6 percent, net profit was down by nearly 26 percent to €18.3 million. Rising procurement costs take part of the blame.

The JD-owned Spanish retailer closed out the year with 166 points of sale but has since opened new ones in Talavera de la Reina (Toledo), Figueres (Girona) and Granada with more to follow this year. It has also expanded its workforce by about a hundred.

Like Sport Zone, Sprinter is operated by JD’s intermediary holding company Iberian Sports Retail Group (ISRG).
