Intersport Austria reports a strong winter season with a 17 percent rise in ski rentals and robust growth in running.
Intersport Austria has reported a highly successful winter season for 2024/25, driven by strong demand for ski rentals and year-round sports categories. The company saw a 17 percent increase in ski rental revenue, particularly in Austria’s key tourism regions.

“Skiing is deeply rooted in Austrian culture, and the strong demand during the Christmas and semester holidays proves that families continue to embrace the sport,” said Franz Koll, CEO of Intersport Austria. The sale of alpine ski equipment, including skis, boots, poles, helmets and protectors, was also exceptional, compensating for weaker demand in snow-dependent categories such as cross-country skiing and sleds, which have suffered from low snowfall in valleys.
A major success this season was the Pistenflitzer seasonal ski rental program for children, which was launched to provide young families with affordable access to skiing. The program exceeded expectations, with over 4,000 ski rentals completed in its first year. “We are thrilled by the overwhelming response. Already, one in three children’s skis in urban areas is rented rather than purchased,” said Johannes Kastenhuber, Head of Marketing at Intersport Austria.
