Zumiez, the parent of the Blue Tomato retail chain, reported a 4.2 percent increase in international net sales, consisting of revenues generated in Europe and Australia, for the nine weeks ended Dec. 30. However, comparable international sales were down 4.2 percent for the period. Group sales fell by 6.6 percent in North America for the period as comps declined by 6.3 percent. During the nine weeks, men’s posted positive comparable sales, but all other categories were down year-over-year, led by women’s, hard goods, accessories, and footwear.

With the results, Zumiez now projects Q4 total revenues near the low end of its guidance of $275-$281 million.

“Consumers continue to be very selective about when they shop and what they purchase,” said Rick Brooks, Zumiez CEO, in a statement. “[…] Unseasonably warm weather in many parts of the US and minimal snowfall in key winter sports regions in North America and Europe were also a headwind to our recent performance.”

Zumiez operates 88 of its 770 stores worldwide in Europe.
