Fischer is introducing freestyle cross-country skiing in Europe with the release of its Jibskate. It will originally be available in 5 countries: Switzerland, Austria, Germany, Sweden and France, using Fischer’s established distribution in the countries. The Jibskate is different from a regular cross-country ski in that it is curled up at either end, allowing its user to ski backwards. Additionally, Jibskates are said to be made from stronger materials, which Fischer says makes them durable enough to perform the outlandish stunts they’re intended for without breaking. The idea for the Jibskate was introduced to Fischer in 2003 by Tor Brown, an American Nordic skater. The Jibskate is manufactured at the company’s main factory in Ried. Fischer will tour Europe with this new product in Winter 2006/07 as part of a road show and training camp.
