Forum Sport, a big Spanish sporting goods retail chain with a strong position in the Basque region, has decided to join Sports Trade Marketing International (STMI) as a member of Twinner International. STMI is the European purchasing group created last year by the French-based Groupe Go Sport and Hervis Sport, the international retail chain based in Austria, to negotiate better conditions with major brands. Forum Sport's 40 stores and its online shop generated sales of €125 million last year. Three additional stores are in the pipeline for this year. Eroski, a large Spanish operator of supermarket stores, holds a 86 percent stake in the sports retail chain, founded in 1991 by three sportsmen. With the addition of Forum Sport, STMI handles purchases for a total of 1,221 stores with annual sales of around €1.3 billion.
