Boa® Technology, inventor of the Boa® Fit System, has joined forces with Salomon, Atomic, Fischer and K2 to launch the first Boa-powered ski boots. One of Austria’s most successful ski racers, Benjamin Raich, was instrumental in developing the system as a test rider and consultant. According to the manufacturer, the new Boa ski boots offer scientifically proven fit and performance advantages and perform reliably even in the most adverse conditions and any situation on the mountain, no matter how challenging. As a result, they are said to provide a more positive overall experience.
The project involved over five years of development and over 50,000 hours of internal teamwork and collaboration with brand partners and ski experts on the snow. In addition, the Boa Performance Fit Lab, founded in 2018 to scientifically prove the performance benefits of Boa in various sports, conducted a ski-specific study. Published in Frontier in Sports, this study demonstrates that the Boa Fit System provides skiers with noticeable performance benefits, such as optimized pressure distribution and improved responsiveness and power transfer throughout the turn.
“As a racer, you’re always looking to take advantage of any performance advantage, no matter how small,” said Olympic Champion Raich. “The Boa ski boot project was a great opportunity for me to contribute my experience and work closely with the Boa team to take fit and ski performance to the next level for future generations of athletes.”
“The Boa ski boot project was the largest and most important initiative since 2001, when Gary Hammerslag’s vision and great perseverance led to a solution that noticeably improved the fit of snowboard boots and, in turn, the overall experience,” said Shawn Neville, CEO of Denver-based Boa Technology. “Two decades, 259 registered patents, and more than 200 million Fit Systems sold later, Boa continues to work with full conviction to push the boundaries of human performance through scientifically proven fit solutions and partnership with leading brands in the winter sports, cycling, golf, outdoor, occupational safety and orthotic and prosthetic categories. Our common goal is to make the best gear even better.”
