The International Olympic Committee (IOC) has confirmed that the French Alps and Salt Lake City, Utah (US) are the sole candidates (“Preferred Hosts”) for the 2030 and 2034 Winter and Paralympic Olympic Games. The IOC will now start more detailed discussions with the National Olympic Committees (NOCs) of the two countries, in view of awarding both editions at the 142nd IOC Session in July 2024 in Paris.

The IOC praised the “alignment with regional and national socio-economic development plans” of the two projects as well as their strong support from the public and the government. In addition, the IOC’s executive board has decided to invite Switzerland into “Privileged dialogue” for the Olympic and Paralympic Winter Games 2038.
