French sporting goods retailers booked an estimated increase of 12 percent in their sales during the second quarter, according to the monthly surveys performed by their trade association, FPS, among its members. Excellent weather conditions led to year-on-year sales increases estimated at 14 percent in April and 8 percent in May. An earlier start of the end-of-season sales regulated by the government contributed to an increase of 14 percent in June, although this probably then led to a drop in July. The good score of the second quarter offset the poor sales results of the first quarter, ending up in an estimated 5 percent increase for the first half of this year.
