Funding has been secured for the Museum of British Surfing, and construction will now begin in North Devon with plans to open at the end of May 2011. The museum’s collection will include almost 200 surfboard and other memorabilia tracing more than 200 years of surfing history in the U.K. Peter Robinson, the museum’s founder and director, helped compile the materials himself. The collection has made a tour of other museums around the British coast for the last seven years. The £250,000 (€294,000-$392,000) funding package for the new museum came from the Leader 4 program, which supports projects in the North Devon area.
