G-Max, the Norwegian sporting goods chain franchised by Gresvig, has won in the court case that XXL had filed against its price matching campaign, which we have already written about in recent issues. The verdict stated that G-Max had done nothing illegal when they launched the campaign, but asked the retailer to change some of the text associated with the campaign. XXL first lost in a Norwegian district court and now again in a higher court, after appealing the initial judgment. The terms of the campaign stated that if the customer could find an identical product available for a lower price than he or she had paid at G-Max or the smaller G-Sport stores within 30 days of purchasing it, Gresvig would pay back the difference and provide a 20 percent rebate on the customer's next purchase from G-Max or G-Sport. Under the new wording, any promise that G-Max will match the competitor's prices has been taken out of the campaign. In addition to having lost the case, XXL has also been ordered to pay all the legal fees associated with it.
