There will be no Golf Europe fair this year. Originally scheduled for Aug. 28-30, much earlier than usual in order to attract more softgoods brands, the project has failed to attract a sufficient number of participants to make it profitable. Attendance was also expected to decline because of holidays in the U.K and the fact that the fair no longer coincides with the popular Oktoberfest in Munich.

The organizer of the show, Messe München, attributed the no-show to the relatively small size of the golf market in Europe, which has been weakened by the recession, and to a migration of marketing budgets to Asia. Furthermore, at least one major producer of golf clubs said it would not be ready with new products in time.

Messe München said that Golf Europe, whose name was due to be changed to Ispo Golf, will be postponed until further notice pending the development of a new concept. Officials indicated that its redesigned format may take advantage of Ispo's intercontinental deployment and its development of an all-year-round platform.
