According to the preliminary figures of the National Statistical Institute (INE), Palco23 reports, Spain’s industry production index (IPI) for sporting goods has dropped by 13 percent year-on-year for June. This marks the end of a nine-month streak of growth. A consecutive six of those months – December (70.1%), January (43.2%), February (51%), March (41.1%), April (10.7%) and May (19.2%) – saw growth in the double digits. Supply-chain disruptions, it would seem, have at last gotten the better of an industry that had flourished under the government lockdowns. The IPI for the Spanish industry in general, by comparison, amounted to 6.4 percent year-on-year for June. Spain’s top index for the month was that of the energy industry, at 14.5 percent, followed by capital goods (10.5%) and consumer goods (6.1%).
