Handelsblatt reports that Metro, the German retail giant, is considering the launch of its Kaufhof department stores on the stock exchange. A Metro executive was quoted as saying that discussions were being held with bankers, with a view to a stock market introduction. One of the issues in this respect is real estate, since about half of the locations for Kaufhof department stores are owned by Metro. The newspaper further quoted a Metro executive as saying that the group was also preparing to spin off its Real supermarkets.
