Herman van Beveren, the general manager of Décathlon in Belgium, told reporters earlier this month that the French retailer intends to double its number of Belgian stores to 30 in the next five years. As reported by Sport Partner, there are currently 15 Décathlon stores in Belgium but two more are already planned in Verviers and in Ghent next year – the first store in the province of east Flanders. Van Beveren unveiled the mid-term expansion plan while discussing the opening in Ghent: Uncharacteristically, the retailer is investing €1.3 million to convert an industrial heritage building to open a two-floor store in the Flemish town.
