Hermann Broekhof, 66, has decided to retire after working for 40 years as a journalist in the sporting goods sector for two Dutch trade publications, first for Tendens and then for Sport Partner. He will continue as a freelance writer in the sports and outdoor sectors. Admitting that its printed edition was no longer profitable, Sport Partner's owner, Maas van Drie, said he was in negotiations with two Dutch companies for its continuation. He also said that he is looking for partners for its weekly newsletter, which was not profitable either with Broekhof on board. While the relatively small Dutch sporting goods market must be particularly difficult for a trade publication supported by advertising, other trade magazines in other bigger countries have changed hands recently, partly because of a generational change. We can mention Diffusion Sport in Spain, SAZ Sport and Sport+Mode in Germany, and Sportfack in Sweden.
