Hervis Sports, the price-driven Austrian retail chain, reports a sales decline of 3.4 percent to €424 million before VAT for the financial year ended on Dec. 31. The company had already suffered a 2 percent drop in the previous year. In 2013, there was an increase in Hungary and Romania, while the turnover dipped in four other countries in which the chain is operational: Austria, Croatia, Slovenia and the Czech Republic. For Germany, no comparison is possible because Hervis has had just one store there since late in 2012. Apparently, the retailer suffered from unfavorable weather conditions. The number of stores remained at 97 abroad and increased in the domestic market by six. The total number of stores was 179 at year-end and the increase in the number of the Austrian stores was partly due to re-arranging the offer at certain locations: In fact the selling surface of slightly below 180,000 square meters remained more or less stable.
