Icon Health & Fitness, which has not been doing well in Germany, is shutting down its German subsidiary in Düsseldorf. It was headed by Mark Richards, responsible also for the UK and recently promoted as European senior operations manager. Instead, the American fitness brand will work from July 2007 through a distributor, Schmidt Sports in Solingen, which will take care of the German and Austrian markets. Schmidt Sports also distributes also the American team sports brand Franklin, the Austrian fitness brand MFT, and other products. Due to trademark registration problems, Icon is branded as Aicon in Germany.
