Icon Health & Fitness pointed to several key factors leading to lower sales in 2012, from record-setting heat in the first quarter and the two final months of the year to the widespread decline in consumer confidence. Looking ahead, however, the U.S. manufacturer of exercise equipment, based in Logan, Utah, counts on the currently growing figures for the sector and the fact that 11 out of the top 15 sporting activities in the country are somehow related to fitness. The company remains optimistic in particular about prospective growth in treadmills, stationary bikes, elliptical trainers and home gyms, which are key categories in the $5.6 billion home fitness industry.
