Iconix Brands Group told an investors' conference organized by Baird that it is shifting its strategy from external to internal growth, particularly in its Active segment, whose sales rose by 16 percent in 2016. It sees growth opportunities in the U.S. for Umbro, which generated retail sales of $750 million through its licensees last year. It wants to move upmarket with Danskin, which had sales of more than $1 billion at Walmart. Another brand in Iconix' portfolio, Starter, will announce a new deal soon. Pony, which has potential as a retro brand from the ‘eighties like Adidas' Stan Smith and the Puma Clyde, is going to launch a new collection in the autumn at big U.S. chains like Journeys and Zumiez.
