In response to a filed complaint and a subsequent, as yet incomplete investigation, Spain's National Commission on Markets and Competition (CNMC) has reportedly initiated punitive proceedings against Adidas Spain for anti-competitive practices, alleging the prohibition of online sales and cross-selling and excessive non-competition clauses in the company's contracts with its franchisees. The CNMC further claims that Adidas might indirectly have set its franchisees' resale prices. The proceedings are a formality and have no effect on the outcome of the investigation, which is under discretionary seal and can last a maximum of 18 months. Adidas had no comment on the proceedings.
