In yet another huge endorsement deal, Under Armour has agreed to fork out $280 million for a 15-year contract with the University of California in Los Angeles (UCLA), which has been described as the largest shoe and apparel deal in the history of the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA). UCLA currently has an endorsement deal with Adidas, which expires next year. Starting on July 1, 2017, the partnership with Under Armour calls for the brand to exclusively design and supply the footwear, apparel and equipment for training and game-day uniforms for all 25 of the university's men's and women's varsity athletic teams. Kevin Plank, chief executive of Under Armour, was on hand himself to reveal the deal in California with Dan Guerrero, the UCLA director of athletics. Under Armour said it would expand in the West Coast with a commitment to open more retail locations around Los Angeles and to offer internships for university students at its head office in Baltimore. The Los Angeles Times reported that UCLA will get $15 million in cash up front and then about $11 million per year in rights and marketing fees. Under Armour has agreed to supply about $7.4 million worth of products and contribute an extra $2 million over the next eight years for facility upgrades.
