Intersport France has stated that it wants to become the second-largest sporting goods retailer in Belgium, where it now has only six stores, compared with 639 in France. We estimate that Intersport was in sixth place in a market dominated by Decathlon in 2015. After closing many stores, Intersport opened a large new store in the Belgian city of Mons last August. Another one is due to be opened in Arlon in the course of 2018. The goal is to have about 40 stores in operation within five to six years.
