Intersport PSC Holding has now definitely decided to shut down its Budget Sport Schweiz subsidiary, and to close down its four low-priced stores in Ostermundigen, Biel, Emmenbrücke and Winterthur. On Aug. 16, the Swiss Intersport organization announced that it was considering this step, but called on its employees to deliver suggestions for alternative plans until Aug. 28. After checking them out, it decided that the closure of the company and its outlets was inevitable due to their ongoing losses and the difficult market environment. It has called on the supervisory board to develop and implement a social plan for the 20 affected employees. Intersport PSC opened the first three Budget Sport stores on March 31 of last year, operating them under a licensing agreement with Kesko, the Finnish licensee of Intersport, which took a longer time to make them profitable after launching the new concept in 2007. Intersport PSC plans to push its previously launched factory outlet format harder in the future.
