Intersport's global network of sporting goods retailers is about to move into its 43rd market, Morocco. With plans to open at least 12 stores with average surfaces of 300 to 400 square meters, Intersport International Corporation has granted a sub-license for the Moroccan market to Intersport Spain. The Spanish Intersport has formed a joint venture with a local partner, Iska Management, which has been in sporting goods retailing before. The joint company, called Youkais Sports Maroc, will move quickly into the larger cities such as Marrakesh, Tangier, Casablanca and Agadir. The first shop is due to be opened before the end of this year by Youkais Sports itself in Casablanca. While the first three shops will be corporate ones operated by the licensee, future points of sale may be franchises. The Spanish Intersport is making its investment through Intersport SL, a limited partnership that replaced the former Spanish Intersport cooperative in 2011 to make it more vertical and to run its own stores.
