Invista has begun construction on a new Lycra fiber manufacturing facility in Paulínia, in São Paulo State in Brazil. It is putting $100 million into the plant, which should open sometime late next year. Part of the investment will go toward new technologies, such as Xtra Life Lycra fiber, which is said to be 10 times more resistant to chlorine than other spandex, and Lycra Xtra Fine Collection fiber, which can be used to make lightweight fabrics and is suitable for underwear. Invista sees Brazil as a strategic, growing market. The new facility joins one in Americana that produces Supplex fabric.
