Invista's apparel and advanced textiles (A&AT) division has signed a memorandum of understanding to build a new textile innovation center in Foshan, China. The facility will feature textile processing equipment for knitting and weaving as well as equipment for garment engineering, analytic testing and fabric certification. It will also include an area devoted to innovation development in which Invista's customers and its research and development personnel can get together to develop and test fabric, fiber and garment innovations. Invista's A&AT division already operates textile research and development laboratories in the U.S., Taiwan and Italy. The company announced last October it had entered into a definitive agreement to sell its apparel and advanced textiles business to Shandong Ruyi, a Chinese textile group. The transaction is expected to close by mid-2018, subject to regulatory clearance from competition authorities.
