Jarden Corporation is planning to raise its stake in Groupe Rossignol from 17 to 47 percent by converting a loan into shares. Macquarie, the Australian investment fund that currently owns 77 percent of the French group, would see its stake decline to the same level as Jarden. Bruno Cercley, chief executive of Rossignol, would keep his 6 percent stake. Confirming this plan, a spokesman for Rossignol said the proposed change of ownership is waiting for formal approval by European anti-trust authorities, but he pointed out that it would not change Jarden's governance with regard to Rossignol. Macquarie and Jarden acquired their shares in Rossignol from Quiksilver three years ago through an investment vehicle, Chartreuse & Mont Blanc, with Jarden getting rights of first refusal on Macquarie's shares. Being the parent company of K2, Völkl and Marker, Jarden is said to be unlikely to want a controlling interest in the French company because of possible anti-trust problems in the U.S.
