Following the group’s announcement in June 2021, JD Sports Fashion announced that Iberian Sports Retail Group (ISRG; the group’s existing 50.02 percent intermediate holding company in Spain) has acquired an additional 18 percent holding in the issued shares of Deporvillage from co-founders Xavier Pladellorens and Àngel Corcuera for a cash consideration of €19.8 million.
Deporvillage was founded in 2010 and is based in Manresa, Catalonia, Spain. The company is an online sports retailer specializing in cycling, running, outdoor and other sports. It is currently the number one online sports retailer in Spain and has a well-established presence in Italy, Portugal and France.
Following the transaction, ISRG will hold a 98-percent stake in Deporvillage, while Pladellorens and Corcuera will retain a 2 percent stake. As part of the transaction, the co-founders will retire from the management of the company after a transition period. ISRG and them have also agreed to put and call options for the co-founders’ remaining 2 percent interest in Deporvillage. The consideration payable for this remaining stake was capped.
