Kasper Rorsted, the Adidas Group's chief executive, has expressed concerns about potential over-commercialization of football and dilution of the game's quality, due to an increasing number of competitions and participants. In an interview with Kicker, a German football magazine, he said that Fifa's decision to increase the number of teams in the final round of the World Cup from 32 to 48 from 2022 had been taken without consulting Adidas, the organization's long-time partner. Gianni Infantino, Fifa's president, has also outlined a proposal to expand the Club World Cup and to start a league for national teams, supported by an agreement worth $25 billion with unidentified investors. This proposal has met criticism from some European stakeholders, raising questions about an overload of games and the alleged lack of transparency in the financial arrangements.
