Kesko Oy reported sales declines of 11.2 percent at Intersport Finland and 13.8 percent at Intersport Russia for the second quarter ended June 30. For the first six months of this year, they were off by 10.5 percent and 21.9 percent, respectively. The profitability of Intersport Finland remained at a good level, however. Two Intersport stores were closed in Russia during the second quarter, reducing the door count in the country to 18 units. Citing a weakening economic situation and consumer demand in Finland, the group reported that its total net sales for the first six months of the years were down by 1.8 percent to €4,499 million, and they generated a slightly lower operating profit of €86.7 million before extraordinary items.
