Lacoste has obtained the backing of the General Court of the European Union (EU) in a trademark dispute against Mocek and Wenta. The judges of EU's second highest court ruled that the caiman logo that the Polish competitor sought to register in the EU was similar enough to Lacoste's iconic crocodile as to cause confusion. Previously, the EU-Trademark Office had already refused the protection of the crocodile symbol of Mocek and Wenta for leather goods, clothing and footwear. The general court found that both signs show a type of crocodile and have at least an “average degree of similarity.”
