Last Sunday, snowboarders around the globe celebrated World Snowboard Day. This year 167 events were organized in 37 countries, up from the 160 events last year. For the first time, events were held in India, Brazil and Peru. All were welcome, with lessons available for beginners as well as demonstrations, competitions and gear tests for those more familiar with the sport. In the interest of sociability, many events also included film showing, barbecues, concerts, “Carnival” celebrations and parties. EuroSIMA, WSF and Outdoor Sports Valley organized World Snowboard Day with support from Snowsports Industries America and Core Power Asia. Next year's event will take place on Sunday, Dec. 23, but snowboarders can extend the festivity of World Snowboard Day by entering a contest being held in partnership with Rider Match. Starting on Jan. 6, athletes can upload a video of their favorite place to snowboard at www.riders-match.com; prizes worth more than €3,000 will be provided by Billabong, Rip Curl, O'Neill and DC Shoes.
