Last year the number of counterfeit golf products seized by the U.S. Golf Manufacturers Anti-Counterfeiting Working Group nearly quadrupled from the 2010 figure, reaching more than 95,000 items. The group cooperated with law enforcement authorities worldwide on various raids and seizures, and also launched a website in July to inform consumers how to avoid buying fake products. In addition, in the U.S. and China it took several legal actions to stop the counterfeit trade, including shutting down 62 websites selling fake goods in November. The group is made up of five of the best-known golf product groups: Callaway-Odyssey, Top-Flite and Ben Hogan; TaylorMade-Adidas Golf and Ashworth; Ping; Cleveland Golf, Srixon and Never Compromise; and Acushnet Company.
