Andrea Abodi has been named the minister of sports and youth affairs in Giorgia Meloni’s new government. Meloni, who has succeeded Mario Draghi as Italy’s prime minister, and her cabinet took the oath before Italy’s president, Sergio Mattarella, on Oct. 22.
Abodi’s appointment marks the return of a ministry of sports in its own right in the Italian government. Abodi brings a long-standing experience in sports governance and management. Since 2017, he has been president of the Italian Institute for Sports Credit (ICS), the only public bank serving the country with the aim to support sport and culture. Prior to that, he was a member of the board of CONI Servizi at the Italian Olympic Committee (CONI) from 2002 to 2008 and president of Italy’s Serie B football league from 2010 to 2017. He is also the founder of the sports marketing agency Media Partners Group.
