The fourth edition of the Winter Youth Olympic Games, which was held in Gangwon, South Korea, from Jan. 19 to Feb. 1, attracted more than 270,000 spectators, who could attend the Games as well as an extensive program of cultural and interactive sports activities, on offer through the “Let’s Play Winter Festival.” The Festival, which was held throughout the host region, celebrated the winter sports on display at the Games and the culture of the Republic of Korea. The Closing Ceremony of Gangwon 2024 in Gangneung Olympic Park featured performances from Korean rapper Young-ji Lee and dance group 1MILLION.

Around 20,000 accredited people worked behind the scenes and helped contribute to the success of the Games, including 1,984 volunteers, 627 members of the media and 289 broadcast personnel. Events were aired in 199 countries, up from 191 for the previous edition, in Lausanne, said the International Olympic Committee (IOC) in a statement. More than 170 hours of live coverage were produced by Olympic Broadcasting Services (OBS). Over four million Koreans watched the live coverage of the Opening Ceremony on KBS1.

Gangwon 2024 was also a success on social media, with posts across the official Olympic platforms reaching 260 million engagements, said the IOC.
