Speaking at the 72nd FIFA Congress in Doha on March 31, FIFA president Gianni Infantino announced his intention to stand for re-election in 2023. It would be his third term in this role. Infantino, a 52-year-old Swiss-Italian lawyer, was first elected as FIFA president in February 2016. Before that, starting in 2009, he served as secretary-general of UEFA, football’s European governing body. He was also elected as a member of the International Olympic Committee (IOC) in January 2020.
