New Balance has filed a trademark infringement lawsuit against Michael Kors, claiming that two models of its sneakers use an “N” in their design that is “confusingly similar” to the iconic “N” in New Balance footwear. New Balance specifically targeted Michael Kors’ Olympia and Pippin shoe collections. The case was filed in the U.S. District Court for the District of Massachusetts on Aug. 11. New Balance is asking the court to force Michael Kors to stop all sales and usage of its “N” designs and to recall the existing shoes. It also asks to be awarded damages from the profits made by Michael Kors profits with the infringing shoes. New Balance has been using its “N” mark in its branding since the 1970s.
