The Pro Padel League (PPL), which operates in North America, has added an eighth team, representing New York City. Its ownership will be detailed over the summer, and the franchise will enter league play next season.

Among the people behind the other franchises are musician (“King of Reggaeton”) Daddy Yankee (owner, Orlando), former pro tennis players Juan Martin Del Potro (strategic advisor, Miami) and Tommy Haas (owner, San Diego), and footballers Miguel Layun (owner, Cancun) and Sebastian Giovinco (owner, Toronto).

CBS Sports recently aired the PPL Championship Match as a two-hour special. By PPL’s estimate, U.S. pádel players will exceed eight million (a bit less than the population of New York City proper) by 2030.
