A new report by UK Active has called for an expansion of sports participation to reduce pressure on the National Health System (NHS) of the U.K. The report, sponsored by Matrix, discusses the role of “social prescribing” in the fitness and leisure sector. In the U.K., social prescribing is a way for health professionals and agencies to refer people to local community groups to improve their health and wellbeing.
Commenting on the agency’s recommendations, Sports Marketing Surveys points out that sport can help prevent certain mental, physical and social ailments at their source, inrrespective of Covid being the cause. In a report on its own website it noted, for example, that its research on sports participation has shown that tennis players are slightly happier with their social life and life overall than the general population.
