Sportmaster and other retailers in Kazakhstan suffered losses of around 25 billion tenges (€50.5m -$57m) from marauders as part of the recent civil unrest in the country, the Union of Trade Networks of Kazakhstan said in a statement on its website, adding that this data is preliminary. The National Chamber of Entrepreneurs of Kazakhstan calculated the amount of damage caused by marauders to businesses at 88.1 billion tenges (€178m- $200m). More than 90 percent of the damage was experienced in Almaty, the country’s biggest city where the most virulent street clashes occurred. Two Russian sporting goods retailers, Sportmaster and Austin, put the damage from the looting in their stores at 3 billion tenges (€6.1m-$6.9m).
