Khamica Bingham – a Canadian track athlete and specialist in the 100 meters, and Operations Coordinator for Brown University’s women’s track & field team – has filed a lawsuit against New Balance in the US District Court of Rhode Island. Bingham blames a faulty New Balance shoe for a “career-ending injury” to her Achilles tendon.

The suit alleges that “on or about” March 27, while Bingham was training for the 2024 Canadian trials and the 2024 Olympics in North Carolina, one of the shoes she was wearing, provided by her sponsor, New Balance, “suddenly cracked and failed.”

Bingham’s husband, Damar Forbes, is also party to the suit. In addition to New Balance, the defendants include John Doe companies – that is, “unknown business entities whose actions and omissions caused or contributed to the damages and injuries complained of.” Bingham is asking for a jury trial.
