Skechers has filed a lawsuit against Maine-based private retailer L.L. Bean, accusing it of allegedly copying a shoe design, according to local media reports.
The lawsuit, filed in New York City federal court, claims that L.L. Bean’s Freeport casual shoes infringe two patented designs for “heel cups” that surround the back of the foot, according to Reuters. “Only after Skechers incurred the substantial risk and monumental expense of developing and promoting its shoes with these heel cup designs, and established that they had broad appeal, did L.L. Bean enter the market with its infringing shoe,” Skechers said.
