Li Ning, Akito Mizuno and Simon Cheng have been appointed to the board of directors of the World Federation of the Sporting Goods Industry (WFSGI) until 2020. The three members were elected at the general assembly of the WFSGI, held in Munich just before Ispo. Li Ning, the former Olympic gymnast and businessman who established the brand, rejoined the board after a previous stint. Cheng is the vice president of strategy and operations at Apache Footwear, and he replaces the company's previous representative on the board. Akito Mizuno, the younger brother of Masato Mizuno, who twice served as president of the WFSGI, is president of Mizuno Corporation and president of the Japan Sporting Goods Association. The appointments enlarged the board to 25 members. They were announced at the 40th anniversary dinner on Saturday night where the president of the WFSGI, Robbert de Kock, got a standing ovation for the work he did to redress the association in the ten years since its began to run it as its only employee. Klaus Dittrich, c hairman and chief executive of Messe München, could not attend the event due to in injuries suffered as a slipped while participating a in a new running event organized in Munich on the eve of the show. Ispo's chief, Tobi Gröber, took his place.
