Life Fitness and other components of Brunswick Corp.'s fitness division raised their sales by 9 percent to $165.9 million in the third quarter ended Sept. 30. They were driven by international sales, which grew by 15 percent to 51 percent of the turnover, with particular strength in Europe where they went up by 25 percent to an implied level of $41.5 million. The segment's operating profit inched up by 2 percent to $25.3 million, but rose by 9 percent on an adjusted basis. In the Bowling & Billiards segment, Brunswick's sales and operating earnings both declined by 2 percent. They were off to $72.8 million and $1.0 million, respectively, but sales outside the U.S. rose by 4 percent to represent 23 percent of the segment's revenues. Brunswick divested its seven European bowling centers during the quarter.
