Like Intersport International Corp. (IIC), Intersport Germany is moving into category management in all the five countries in which it operates under its recently appointed chief executive, Alexander von Preen. Starting on Jan. 1, the former sales function will be eliminated and replaced by the new category management and strategic purchasing functions. Katja Erbe, who had become European general manager for The Athlete's Foot last February, will be in charge of category management from next April 1, reporting to Matthias Boenke, who is in charge of the Intersport brand. Thorsten Schmitz, the CEO of Intersport Austria, will take care of category management until she becomes operational. Erbe previously worked for nearly 19 years for the Adidas Group, among others as senior sales director for Eastern Europe and as senior brand director for Reebok in the Central Europe region. Meanwhile, Tim Bielohoubeck, who has been in charge of strategic brands at Intersport Germany, will take charge of strategic purchasing, reporting directly to von Preen, who will supervise the group's strategic development, project management and communication.
