Following a vote at the European Metropolis of Lille (MEL) on June 24, the MEL and Decathlon have officially announced the signing of a five-year naming contract for the local Ligue 1 stadium. Currently called Stade Pierre Mauroy, in honor of the mayor of Lille from 1973 to 2001, the stadium will be renamed Decathlon Arena – Stade Pierre Mauroy from the start of the 2022/23 football season. News of the contract had been announced by France Bleu earlier this month, as SGI Europe also reported at the time. Decathlon’s corporate headquarters is located in Villeneuve-d’Ascq, a few hundred meters from the stadium, and the retailer has 5,200 employees on the territory of the Lille metropolitan area alone.
