Former U.S. ski racer Lindsey Vonn will host the Laureus World Sports Awards Show 2022, which will be broadcast from the Spanish city of Seville on Sunday, April 24. The Laureus World Sports Awards were first presented in 2000. Since then, the awards have recognized the greatest sporting achievements of individuals and teams from around the world, and have hosted the world’s biggest names in sports and entertainment.

Vonn was honored by the Laureus Academy with the Laureus Spirit of Sport Award in 2019 to celebrate the end of her remarkable career. She became a member of the Laureus Academy in 2021. This year’s honorees in various categories will be announced in a “virtual” format due to the ongoing uncertainty surrounding the Covid pandemic. The full list of nominees in seven categories can be found here.

In response to the conflict in Ukraine, the Laureus Sport for Peace Humanitarian Action Fund was established to help alleviate the human catastrophe unfolding in that country. Public donations can be made through Laureus.com – at Just Giving and Global Giving.com. The fund will support local organizations such as UNICEF, Save the Children and Red Cross/Red Crescent, which are providing food, water and medicine to victims of the Russian invasion and shelter to mothers and children who are fleeing. Laureus will also be a beneficiary of the “Play Your Part” fundraising campaign launched by Laureus ambassador Andriy Shevchenko, captain and coach of the Ukrainian national team.
