Literally at the end of the Ispo Beijing show, Knut Jaeger passed away. This pioneer of the Chinese outdoor industry died in Hong Kong, where he was based, at the age of 72, right after coming back from Ispo. Jaeger had a focus on China since in the late 1980s, when it had not even been discovered by some of the major brands. With his Big Pack company, which had a plant in China, he participated in the foundation of the OutDoor show in Friedrichshafen in 1993. He sold Big Pack to the Lafuma Group in 2001 and then threw himself into Chinese business opportunities together with his energetic wife, Queenie, a native of Hong Kong. In 2006, the started the Asia Outdoor show in Nanjing through a joint venture controlled by Messe Friedrichshafen, the organizer of the OutDoor show in Germany, and then added to this venture another project, Asia Bike, the Chinese counterpart of the Eurobike event in Friedrichshafen.
